How To Get A Clean Tone On Fender Mustang

  1. That's the question. When the LED screen says '65 Deluxe' does it sound like one? Do you have to tweak the crap out of it before it does, like removing excess reverb or Tremolo etc?
  2. Played an american standard on one and the setting set 57 classic or something, gave me a pretty clean strat sound.
  3. It will play pretty darn clean and sound good but it is still a ss amp-It is what it is-A good sounding modeling amp.
Once you dig into the Fender FUSE software, things really open up. My favorite amp sound was the bassman setting. A downside for me was why didn't this amp have a middle tone control on the front of the amp... strange. You had to go into the software program through a computer to adjust that.
One of the few reasons why I don't have that amp anymore.

Of all the amp models on my MII I only use the 57 Deluxe. It has a good clean. I really wanted to like the Deluxe Reverb but "Obnoxious Tail End Distortion"
mostly on the bass strings. I have 2 MII amps but will getting rid of one soon. The one I'm keeping I put an Eminence Legend 1258 speaker in it. Improved the clean. I play it less and less now that I got a Super Champ XD.
  5. It will sound close until you a/b it with a Deluxe sitting beside it.
  6. Wow. Sounds like I should just go with another XD. I don't really want to mess with software just to get a decent sound. I don't have a computer that will handle it right now.

Thanks everyone. Not the solution I was hoping for for.

I have a mustang 1, and can get pretty sweet clean tones out of it as well. However, I'm one if those guys that just likes to plug in and play. The software and all the different options you can do to change what your guitar sounds like is pretty cool, but I'm just too lazy to do all that, to be quite honest. Just wanna go as soon as I pick my guitar up. But as said, it is what it is, a pretty awesome little modeling amp for a pretty great price.
  8. a single coil through the 65 setting is almost painfully clean. I really like the 57 setting because if you roll the volume back you can get a nice clean but when you roll it forward you actually get some pretty authentic breakup.

I've fooled a couple people with the amp because it has that vintage(ish) kind of look and can get some pretty sweet classic sounds. Some people have been very surprised when I told them it was a modeling amp and they didn't believe me until I started spinning the model knob.

Of course then they hate it on principal.

  9. I dig the Mustang Fender clean sounds -- many of my students have this amp. My computer won't run FUSE, so I'm quite happy to play my SCXD.
  10. I have the Mustang III and the clean sound on the 65 Deluxe is AMAZING.

I have to say that I have only heard people play on the actual Deluxe Reverb tube amp and have never played it myself. But, I should make it clear that the 65 Deluxe model on the Mustang sounds great to me. I use it for most of the sounds that I build on my Mustang III.

I have played around with the SCXD a lot in the past, and can't remember any sound coming from it that reminded me of a real 65 deluxe more than the Mustang III does.

    Just my .02
